Yonda Davis is a brilliant acting coach whose rare combination of qualities include precision, discipline, intuition, and passion. Her uniquely balanced, heartfelt approach has changed the lives of her acting students, expanding their skills and work ethics to a level of excellence that has launched and sustained many successful careers.
A native of Alabama, Yonda Davis came to California and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater from the University of Southern California. She then became involved in the Black Actors Network and joined a series of workshops sponsored by Warner Brothers Studios, which taught actors a robust business approach to their careers. But she didn’t stop there! Her flourishing career as an actor and over twenty years as an acting coach resulted in the creation of The Davis Technique, which combines her insightful observations of actors and acting with a profound recognition of what it takes to launch a successful acting career.
Not only has Ms. Davis been inspired by the methods taught by Roy London, Uta Hagen and Beah Richards, she possesses the ability to quickly and accurately assess the quality of both aspiring and experienced actors’ interpretations of a character and their performance. She challenges her students by insisting that they breathe the fullness of life into a role emotionally, intellectually and spiritually. As she nurtures, so does she lead by traveling the country teaching workshops at prestigious venues like SAG Conservatory, The Actors’ Boot Camp and AFI. She has also produced film and television projects.
Ms. Davis shares with prospective students, “In a business where an aspiring actor can easily fall prey to being taken advantage of, my motivation as your coach is to cultivate your instinctive skills so that you reach the pinnacle of what it means to have a thriving, satisfying career.”
